I’ve got nothing to celebrate today, just nonstop obligations. So the victory here is just that I’m needed. That sorta counts.

…the house is in decent shape.
I’m always on point for cleaning, and even at my best I’m often tired and can barely keep up with the kids. With my wife down for post-op recovery for a week, it’s that much harder to keep the house from turning into S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
But hey, it’s going okay this weekend. Got some clutter, but the dishes are done and the floor’s been swept. Let’s call it a win.
…our living room is finally clean.
Pretty much since Thanksgiving we’ve been in a whirlwind of holidays and birthdays that have left me without dedicated time or energy to clean up the common area in our house.
And now I can walk through it without tripping. Yay me.
…I had a moment to do nothing.
Just nothing. No chores, fun, or anything between. A moment of calm empty.
Then I got back to work. The dishes ain’t gonna do themselves.
…I probably won’t have to cook for the rest of the week.
As much as I might think of myself as a gourmand, cooking’s really not my bag. Mostly I tense up and think about all the cleaning I have to do afterward.
Fortunately, we’re well stocked on leftovers and several days are already planned for takeout, so I can just eat and be merry.
…my only plans this morning are to clean.
I don’t care that it’s dull as hell. I’m excited to finally clean up some mess that’s been haunting us for ages. Seems I can never find time to do it on a regular schedule, but today’s the beginning of my vacation. So let’s bust out the mop, motherfucker.
…I’m going to install hangers for our EV charging cable.
The point of them is to keep the cord off the ground during rain and snow so it stays in better shape over the years. But honestly, the main draw is that I have a project today. Something where I can zone out and listen to podcasts and still feel productive. Not a bad day.
…the gutters have been cleaned.
Not by me. It would be more impressive if I did them, but I fear heights and the lawn care guy gave us a good price.
Cleaning your rain gutters is like a mature thing to do, right? Do I get grown up points?
Eh, actually I don’t give a shit either way, I’m just glad that weird plant isn’t growing out of there anymore.
…the kids’ playroom is navigable.
Not clean. But you can walk through it. Took pretty much all of Sunday just to get to that point.
I’ve got hope we’ll team up and clean it completely before the holidays. Just in time to fill it up with more toys.
…we made stock.
And more importantly, we cleared a hell of a lot of room out of the freezer. We had two different poultry carcasses and a five gallon bag of vegetable scraps in there for weeks on end. Every time we went to grab some ice, we had to move our stock ingredients out of the way. And naturally, every time you shifted that Tetris pile, you couldn’t close the door without reconfiguring it.
Now it’s all gone and we have jars of tasty stock instead. And the empty scrap bags. Which will refill gradually. Until I do all this shit again in like a month.
At least I can get my ice in peace for a little while.
